As most readers will know, World Mental Health Day takes place each year on October 10. World Mental Health Day was initiated by the World Health Organisation in order to raise awareness and discussion about mental health issues. For many, World Mental Health Day has grown to become a week-long series of events and this year, in order to facilitate the number of events that are taking place, Arts + Minds are declaring October World Mental Health Month!
Arts + Minds are delighted to be working with HSE Cork Mental Health Services to host an Arts and Mental Health Learning and Exchange Day for HSE mental health staff later in the month. On October 6, Arts + Minds Chairperson, Mary Dineen, will host a workshop for mental health professionals in Waterford as part of the Well | Festival of Arts and Wellbeing. The Well Festival is organised by Waterford Healing Arts Trust and Garter Lane Arts Centre, it takes place from October 6 – 11 and has a fantastic line up of events which you can find out more about here.
Our colleagues in West Cork are also hosting the West Cork Arts & Wellness Festival from October 6 – 12. Members of the Arts + Minds choral group The Leeside Seratones are looking forward to travelling down to Clonakility on October 10, to celebrate World Mental Health Day along with other choirs from Co. Cork. For more information about the West Cork Arts & Wellness Festival, see the posters below, check out the festival facebook page or contact Kevin O’Shanahan at kevin.oshanahan@hse.ie or 086 787248.
Arts + Minds would love to hear from others that are hosting arts and mental health events in October, especially in the Cork area, and would be happy to post details of your events. Contact us here.
