As regular readers will know, the ‘Open Door’ music sessions have been taking place at the West Cork Arts Centre, Skibbereen since 2011. The workshops, facilitated by our friends at Music Alive are inspired by the West Cork tradition of ‘scoraíochting’; where people gathered in neighbours’ houses to listen, sing, play music and dance to create their own entertainment and community interaction.
To celebrate Culture Night on Friday September 19. Music Alive will host an extra special ‘Open Door’ session at Cork School of Music, Union Quay, Cork City, from 4 – 6pm. Choir leader and singer Caz Jeffreys will be the special guest and all are welcome to join in the singing and music-making. There is no cost for attendance and no musical experience is necessary.
