Arts + Minds short film tells the story of a now (mostly) demolished landmark

Passing the site of the former Camden Palace Hotel Arts Centre (previously a temporary courthouse and before that a garden centre, built c. 1885) in Cork recently, we were reminded of the very first short film that Arts + Minds ever made – From Darkness into Light (6min, 2014). The film was made in Camden Palace in 2014, as part of an introductory film project with filmmaker Colm Walsh, and looks at the history of the building, as well as including some related vignettes that still make us smile. From Darkness into Light seems all the more interesting now, given that most of the building has been demolished to make way for an office block. Happily though, the ornate Venetian-style facade remains and will be incorporated into the new build.
