Please find a list of arts projects and events below that have been or are currently being delivered by Mahon Blackrock Community Mental Health Service in conjunction with Arts + Minds. Arts + Minds is supported through the HSE Cork Arts and Health Programme. Individual projects in Mahon Blackrock have also been supported by Crawford Art Gallery, Cork City Council and the Health Services National Partnership Forum.

2011

Tuning In – the Mahon / Blackrock music sessions took place in November and December 2011 and was facilitated by musician Kevin O’Shanahan, Music Alive.

World Mental Health Day 10 October 2011, Crawford Art Gallery. Included screening of 5 animation films created by the Unfold animation project

Unfold 3 Animation Project This project built on Unfold 1 and 2 (2010) and was facilitated by visual artist, Julie Forrester in May, June and September of 2011. The project took place in Crawford Art Gallery and included staff and mental health service users from Mahon / Blackrock and Togher / Ballyphehane.

The Music and Dance Project took place in January and February 2010 and was facilitated by Kevin O’Shanahan, Music Alive, and dance artist Jo Nichols.

2010

Unfold 2 Visual Arts Project This project built on phase 1 of the project (May and June 2010) and took place in November and December. It took place in Crawford Art Gallery and was facilitated by visual artist, Julie Forrester.

The Write Stuff  This project took place in November and December, and was facilitated by creative writing facilitator, Michael Dineen.

The Haiku Project / World Mental Health Day 2010 The Haiku Project took place in 5 mental health settings in July 2010 and was facilitated by writer Denise Hall. A pamphlet of Haikus created by project participants was launched by Cllr. Kieran McCarthy, Cork City Council, in Camden Palace Arts Centre on World Mental Health Day

Unfold 1 Visual Arts Project This project took place in Crawford Art Gallery in May and June 2010 and was facilitated by visual artist Julie Forrester.

Dance Project This project took place in March and April and was facilitated by dance artist, Jo Nichols.

Music Project This project took place in January and February and was facilitated by musician Ben Girling.

Mahon / Blackrock Community Mental Health Service serves the south east suburbs and part of the south inner city of Cork. It has a catchment area of approximately 40,000 people. The sector headquarters is based in the Blackrock primary care centre in Skehard Road. The community mental health team provides a comprehensive range of services that include outpatient clinics, counselling, psychology, social work and mental health nursing services. The team work closely with other health professionals and with the local community to provide for the mental health needs of the population. The Mahon / Blackrock Community Mental Health Arts Programme is coordinated by Mary Dineen.
